In a major boost to housing for the poor, the Central Government has sanctioned financial support for families in Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) - 2.0. Beneficiaries with their own land will receive ₹2.50 lakh each to construct houses, bringing relief to thousands of low-income families aspiring to build a home.
Officials confirmed that 2,226 beneficiaries from Kakinada district will be covered in the first phase of fund release. The scheme is being implemented in:
Kakinada Municipal Corporation
Samarlakota, Pithapuram, Peddapuram, and Tuni municipalities
Gollaprolu and Yeleswaram nagar panchayats
Eligible families who own at least 1.5 to 2 cents of land have been sanctioned houses under the scheme.
Along with the central assistance, the state government is also expected to provide additional financial support, ensuring that beneficiaries can complete their houses without delay.
The program also includes a provision for DWCRA (Self-Help Group) women, who will be eligible for bank loans to complement the central grant. This will enable families to cover extra construction costs beyond the sanctioned amount.
Authorities have already submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for another 189 houses under the third phase, which is awaiting approval.
In Kakinada district, officials have identified 4,374 eligible families owning small plots across constituencies like:
Kakinada Rural, Peddapuram, Pithapuram, Jaggampeta, Tuni, and Prattipadu
Tallarevu, Kajuluru, and Pedapudi mandals
DPRs for these areas have been forwarded to the Centre, and approvals are expected soon. Once cleared, more beneficiaries will be able to avail the ₹2.50 lakh central subsidy.
To ensure transparency, surveys are being conducted through village and ward secretariats, where:
Engineering assistants and housing staff collect beneficiary details.
Data is uploaded to the Awas Plus app.
Documents such as Aadhaar and ration cards are verified.
Only families with an annual income below ₹3 lakh are considered eligible. Once verified, DPRs are submitted to the Centre, which then releases funds.
With central support under PMAY 2.0, thousands of families in Andhra Pradesh are closer to realizing their dream of owning a home. The initiative is also expected to expand to more constituencies in the coming months.
