Andhra Pradesh to Provide Free Electricity to Weavers: Survey Complete, Officials Confirm

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to implement full-scale free electricity supply for handloom workers and power loom units across the state. Following reports that some weavers were still receiving electricity bills, officials clarified that the house-to-house survey for the scheme has been completed, and preparations are underway for its complete rollout.

The decision to provide free electricity aims to support the handloom sector, which is crucial for rural livelihoods. Under the scheme:

Commissioner of the Handlooms and Textiles Department, Rekha Rani, confirmed that the state recently conducted a detailed household survey to identify beneficiaries. The survey identified:

Additional Benefits

Apart from the full free units, the government is also providing 50% subsidy for additional electricity consumption beyond the free quota for both handlooms and power looms. This step is part of the state's ongoing efforts to support the struggling handloom sector and ensure financial stability for workers.
