The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a major welfare initiative for tribal families under the DEEPAM-2 scheme. As part of this program, 23,912 tribal households across the state will receive 14.2 kg LPG cylinders free of cost.
Previously, tribal families were provided 5 kg cylinders. Under the new decision, they will now receive three free cylinders annually, each with a larger capacity of 14.2 kg. The government has approved a budget of ₹5.54 crore to cover security deposits, documentation charges, and other associated costs, ensuring that the scheme is fully funded by the state.
This move aims to benefit tribal communities living in remote and hilly regions, where transportation of LPG cylinders has always been a challenge. By providing larger cylinders, the government hopes to make cooking fuel more accessible and convenient for these families.
The decision was finalized in the recent cabinet meeting, where the council approved the implementation of the scheme in 16 districts, reaching nearly 24,000 tribal households. Officials from gas companies, district collectors, and joint collectors have already been instructed to ensure smooth execution.
With this initiative, the Andhra Pradesh government is extending the DEEPAM-2 scheme benefits to tribal families, ensuring that even those in the most remote areas receive adequate and reliable cooking fuel.
