The Andhra Pradesh government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) to support pregnant women with financial assistance, proper nutrition, and continuous health monitoring. Under this scheme, women receiving their first maternity benefit get ₹5,000, and in the case of a second delivery if a girl child is born, the mother receives ₹6,000. The main objective of the scheme is to ensure better health for both mother and baby.
Provide financial support to pregnant women
Ensure access to nutritious food and supplements
Monitor the health of the mother and newborn regularly
Prevent financial stress during pregnancy and delivery
Previously, the amount was disbursed in three installments. Now, it is provided in two phases:
₹3,000 - After pregnancy registration
₹2,000 - After delivery and completion of three mandatory vaccinations for the baby
For the second childbirth, if the newborn is a girl child, the government provides ₹6,000 in a single installment as a special incentive to support families with girls.
Along with the financial aid, Anganwadi workers regularly check the health of pregnant women and ensure they receive the required nutrition. This improves the overall well-being of both mother and child.
The scheme is currently managed by the Women and Child Welfare Department. Anganwadi workers register pregnant women in their respective areas. However, certain issues have been reported, such as:
Delays in registration
Heavy workload for Anganwadi staff
Technical issues like Aadhaar not being linked with bank accounts
Because of these problems, some women did not receive benefits earlier. However, officials say that since June this year, all registered beneficiaries have received their PMMVY payments.
The government urges all eligible pregnant women to make use of this scheme, as it offers crucial financial, nutritional, and health support during pregnancy.
