To promote entrepreneurship and self-employment, the Bihar government has rolled out the Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana 2025, a flagship scheme aimed at providing financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to unemployed youth and small entrepreneurs. The initiative is expected to benefit lakhs of families and accelerate local industrial growth across the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar formally launched the scheme earlier this year, describing it as a "transformational step" toward building a self-reliant Bihar through small-scale entrepreneurship.
The Laghu Udyami Yojana is designed to help educated unemployed youth and aspiring business owners start or expand their ventures. The scheme not only offers easy loans and government subsidies but also aims to strengthen Bihar's micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector - a backbone of the state's rural economy.
According to officials from the Industries Department, over 94 lakh low-income families have been identified as potential beneficiaries under the scheme. One eligible member from each family can apply for assistance.
Under the scheme, selected applicants can receive financial support up to ₹2 lakh, disbursed in three instalments (25% + 50% + 25%). The aid can be used to start new businesses or expand existing small-scale units in manufacturing, trading, or service sectors.
Part of this financial aid is provided as a subsidy, reducing repayment pressure on beneficiaries. The scheme also emphasizes women's entrepreneurship, rural industrialization, and district-level job creation.
To apply for the Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana 2025, candidates must meet the following conditions:
Be a permanent resident of Bihar.
Be between 18 and 50 years of age.
Have passed at least Class 10 (Matric).
Be unemployed or planning to start a small business.
Propose a viable project in micro or small-scale industries.
Not be a defaulter of any bank or loan.
Only one person per household can avail benefits.
The scheme particularly targets individuals from families identified in the state's socio-economic survey and aims to improve employment opportunities across rural and semi-urban Bihar.
The application process has been made fully digital for transparency and accessibility. Interested applicants can apply through the official portal - udyami.bihar.gov.in.

The Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana 2025 is implemented by the Department of Industries in coordination with District Industry Centres (DICs). A screening committee evaluates business ideas and monitors fund utilization to prevent misuse. Beneficiaries must provide proof of fund usage to receive subsequent instalments.
The state government has also integrated a digital dashboard for real-time monitoring of applications and disbursements, ensuring accountability and efficiency.
Officials believe that the Laghu Udyami Yojana will play a vital role in reviving Bihar's small-scale industrial ecosystem. It is expected to generate employment, enhance local production, and encourage youth to become self-reliant rather than migrating for jobs.
"This scheme is not just financial assistance - it's an investment in Bihar's entrepreneurial spirit," a senior industries official said.
