The Government of India is implementing the National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) to support families that lose their primary breadwinner. Under this scheme, the widow or surviving female member of the family is eligible to receive a one-time financial assistance of ₹20,000 to help overcome immediate financial distress.
The deceased must have been the head of the family, aged between 18 to 59 years.
The widow/surviving female member should be supporting the family after the death.
The death must have occurred on or after April 12, 2017.
The family’s annual income must not exceed ₹60,000.
To apply for this scheme, the applicant must submit:
Death certificate of the deceased.
Bank account details of the widow/surviving family member.
Aadhaar card of the applicant.
Ration card for family details.
Application forms are available at local Xerox centers.
The completed application along with the required documents should be submitted to the Mandal Tahsildar’s office.
Applications are not accepted through Meeseva centers.
Applications must be submitted within one year of the death.
This scheme provides a lump-sum assistance of ₹20,000 to eligible families. It is a vital support system for widows and their families during times of financial hardship.
