What is the India Post Franchise Scheme?

The Department of Posts (India Post) allows individuals and small businesses to run postal service outlets as franchisees in areas where opening a full-fledged post office is not possible.

 Eligibility

• Must be an Indian citizen, 18 years or older.
  
  
• Minimum 10th class pass.
  
  
• Basic computer/smartphone literacy.
  
  
• Postal pensioners, unemployed youth, corner shops, and small businesses are encouraged to apply.
  
  

 Investment & Deposit

• Security deposit: Around ₹10,000 (via National Savings Certificate – NSC or similar).
  
  
• Setup cost: Computer, printer, internet, counters, signage, etc. (cost borne by franchisee).
  
  

 Services Offered

Franchisees can provide:

• Booking of Registered Post, Speed Post, Money Orders
  
  
• Sale of stamps & stationery
  
  
• Postal Life Insurance (PLI) services
  
  
• Retail services (bill collections, e-governance services, etc.)
  
  

 Commission & Earnings

• ₹3 per Registered Letter
  
  
• ₹5 per Money Order (above ₹200)
  
  
• 5% on sale of stamps/stationery
  
  
• 7–25% commission on Speed Post business (depending on volume)
  
  
• Additional 20% bonus commission for high volumes
  
  

 Monthly income can range between ₹15,000–₹40,000+, depending on business generated.

4. Collect or download the application form (available at local post offices or India Post site).
   
   
5. Submit application with required documents and security deposit.
   
   
6. On approval, sign an MoA (Memorandum of Agreement) with India Post.
   
   

 Important Note:

• India Post never guarantees fixed income like ₹40,000 per month. Earnings are commission-based, depending on the actual business done.
