The Central Government provides financial support to talented students through the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scheme. Under this initiative, selected students receive ₹12,000 per year (₹1,000 per month) to encourage them to continue their education after Class 8 and reduce dropout rates.
The NMMS Scholarship aims to support bright students from economically weaker backgrounds studying in government or government-aided schools. It helps prevent students from dropping out after middle school and motivates them to complete their secondary and higher secondary education.
Students studying in Class 8 during the academic year 2025-26 in government, local body, or government-aided schools are eligible.
The annual family income should not exceed ₹3.5 lakh.
The student must have scored at least 55% marks in Class 7 (50% for SC/ST students).
Students of Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Schools, or Residential Schools are not eligible.
The student's age should be between 13 and 15 years.
Each selected student will receive:
₹1,000 per month, i.e., ₹12,000 per year
The scholarship will continue from Class 9 up to Class 12, provided the student maintains the required academic performance.
Selection is based on a state-level examination conducted in two parts:
Mental Ability Test (MAT)
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
Students who perform well in these tests will be selected for the scholarship.
The amount will be credited directly to the student's bank account every year.
The last date to apply for the NMMS Scholarship 2025 has been extended to October 14, 2025. Eligible students can apply online through the official website: https://www.bse.telangana.gov.in/
