India’s Rahveer Scheme

Every year, thousands of people lose their lives in road accidents across India — not always because of the severity of injuries, but often due to delayed medical treatment. Many bystanders hesitate to help, fearing police procedures and legal hassles.

To change this mindset and encourage immediate assistance, the Government of India launched the Rahveer Scheme (also known as the Good Samaritan Reward Scheme). Under this initiative, citizens who save accident victims during the critical “Golden Hour” can receive a cash reward of ₹25,000.

What Is the Rahveer Scheme?

The Rahveer Scheme aims to reduce fatalities by ensuring accident victims receive treatment within the first one hour after the crash — known as the “Golden Hour.”

As defined under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Golden Hour is the crucial 60-minute period following a traumatic injury. Medical attention during this time significantly improves survival chances.

Anyone who takes an injured person to the hospital during this period and helps save their life is recognized as a “Rahveer” and becomes eligible for the reward.

What To Do During a Road Accident?

If you witness an accident:

  1. Immediately call the emergency helpline 112

  2. Arrange ambulance support if needed

  3. Take the victim to the nearest hospital without delay

Remember, a road accident doesn’t just impact one person — it affects an entire family. Acting within the Golden Hour can save a precious life — and the government now recognizes and rewards such courage.

Saving a life is priceless. But now, it’s also officially rewarded.
