Ujjwala Yojana: Central Government Announces ₹300 LPG Subsidy

The Central Government has announced a major relief for poor families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Families enrolled in the scheme will now receive a subsidy of ₹300 per LPG cylinder, directly credited to their bank accounts.

Background of the Scheme

The Ujjwala Yojana was first launched in 2016 with the objective of providing clean cooking fuel to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households. Since its inception, crores of families have been provided with free LPG connections. With the new announcement, the government aims to ease the burden of rising LPG prices on poor households.

Financial Allocation & Beneficiaries

According to the government’s latest decision, around 12 crore families across India will benefit from the scheme. The subsidy will be credited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This will ensure transparency and avoid any middlemen.

Eligibility Criteria

Women above the age of 18 belonging to poor families are eligible for this scheme. Families listed in the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) and those categorized as BPL households will be covered under this subsidy.
