The Government of Karnataka launched the Gruha Jyoti Scheme to help residents by providing free electricity up to 200 units per household every month. This initiative aims to reduce electricity expenses and encourage energy efficiency across the state.
Note: Existing schemes like Kuteera Jyothi, Amrutha Jyothi, and Bhagya Jyothi have been merged under the Gruha Jyoti Scheme.
Households consuming below 90 units will now receive an additional 10 units of free electricity (instead of the earlier 10% calculation).
Nearly 1.65 crore households have already registered.
Karnataka has around 1.95 crore domestic consumers, with an average consumption of 53 units.

The scheme offers up to 200 units of free electricity monthly to every eligible residential household in Karnataka. If your consumption stays below your average eligible units (calculated by past usage), you receive a zero electricity bill, helping save around ₹1,000 every month.
Residents can apply online through the Seva Sindhu portal or offline by visiting Bangalore One, Karnataka One, Grama One, or Grama Panchayat centers.
Formula to calculate eligibility:
Average Units Consumed (April 2022 - March 2023) + 10% Increase
✅ If the final figure is ≤ 200 units, you are eligible for free electricity up to that limit.
✅ If your monthly consumption exceeds your average limit (but stays under 200 units), you must pay only for the extra units.
✅ If you cross 200 units in a month, you must pay the full bill for that month.
