The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has announced a major affordable housing initiative under the Chief Minister’s “Namma Mane” scheme, aiming to fulfill the dream of owning a home for construction workers, community workers, and low- to middle-income families in Bengaluru.
As part of the plan, KHB has earmarked 230 acres of land in Surya Nagar Phase-4, Anekal Taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The project proposes the construction of modern two-storey duplex houses, which will be offered at subsidised and affordable rates.
In another significant development, KHB has issued a land acquisition notification for 315 acres near Kengeri to develop a new township. This project is expected to improve planned urban housing infrastructure in the western part of the city.
According to officials, KHB aims to construct around 4,000 to 5,000 flats in the coming phases across key Bengaluru locations, including:
Yelahanka
Surya Nagar
Kengeri
Viswanathapura
Devanahalli
These homes will primarily cater to economically weaker sections (EWS) and middle-income groups.
Under the Namma Mane scheme, special benefits are planned for community and essential service workers. Eligible beneficiaries will receive:
Residential plots at a 50% discounted rate
Houses at affordable, government-controlled prices
At the state level, the Karnataka Housing Board has set an ambitious target to provide:
1 lakh residential plots
10,000 houses
The estimated project cost is ₹8,778.50 crore. A formal proposal has already been submitted, and among Karnataka’s 31 districts, Bengaluru has been given the highest priority due to housing demand.
Detailed guidelines regarding eligibility, application process, pricing, and timelines are expected to be announced soon by the Karnataka Housing Board.
