The Government of Maharashtra has introduced an ambitious welfare initiative called the Swayampurna Maharashtra Residential Rooftop Scheme (SMART Scheme) to reduce electricity expenses for economically weaker households. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries can receive subsidies of up to 95% for installing rooftop solar systems, with the goal of achieving zero monthly electricity bills.
This scheme primarily targets families consuming less than 100 units of electricity per month, especially those belonging to BPL, SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories.
The Swayampurna Maharashtra Residential Rooftop Scheme is a state government program aimed at promoting the use of solar energy among low-income households. Through heavy financial support, the government helps eligible electricity consumers install rooftop solar panels at a highly subsidized cost.

Objective of the Scheme

For a 1 kW solar system costing ₹50,000:
A BPL consumer pays only ₹2,500
The remaining amount is covered through government subsidy

Be a permanent resident of Maharashtra
Be a registered electricity consumer
Belong to SC, ST, BPL, OBC, or EWS category
Consume less than 100 units of electricity per month
Have a bank account linked with Aadhaar
