The Telangana government has announced a major boost for farmers by expanding the crop insurance coverage. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao made a significant statement regarding the implementation of crop insurance during both Kharif (Vanakalam) and Rabi (Yasangi) seasons.
Instructions have been issued to officials to prepare proposals for covering all major crops under crop insurance.
The minister emphasized the need to study how other states are implementing the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and develop suitable guidelines for Telangana.
Minister Rao suggested conducting a study to assess whether full compensation can be provided for crops like paddy and mango that suffer losses due to natural disasters such as hailstorms.
He stressed the use of technology for accurately estimating crop yields and designing systems to ensure quick claim settlements by insurance companies.
A review meeting was held on Wednesday at the Secretariat with:
Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao

Other key officials
Officials explained the current guidelines of the PMFBY scheme during the meeting.
