PMAY-U 2.0 & Indiramma Housing Scheme: Big Relief for Urban Poor, 20,000 Houses Approved in Telangana

The Telangana government has taken a major step toward fulfilling the dream of homeownership for urban poor families. Under the PMAY-U 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0) scheme, the central government has approved the construction of around 20,000 houses and released nearly ₹300 crore in funding.

 Focus on Urban Housing

While the Indiramma Housing Scheme has primarily been implemented in rural areas so far, the state government is now shifting focus toward urban regions. This move aims to provide permanent housing to economically weaker sections living in cities, especially those without their own homes.

 Key Implementation Areas

The housing initiative will be rolled out in major urban regions, including:

A recent survey conducted within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits of Hyderabad revealed that nearly 9 lakh families do not own land. Many of them live in rented houses or temporary shelters, with a significant number residing in huts and makeshift structures.

 Completion of Pending Double Bedroom Houses

The government is also accelerating the completion of pending double bedroom housing units left unfinished by the previous administration.

Efforts are underway to provide basic infrastructure and distribute these houses to eligible beneficiaries soon.

 Transparent Beneficiary Selection

Officials have clarified that the selection process is strictly based on economic eligibility. Priority is being given to:

 Second Phase Coming Soon

The Telangana government is planning to launch the second phase of the Indiramma Housing Scheme from April. This phase is expected to benefit a larger number of urban poor families.
