Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

The Telangana government has taken a significant step to provide financial support to pregnant women and new mothers. Chief Minister K. Revanth Reddy's administration has decided to implement the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a central government scheme, in the state. Under this program, ₹5,000 will be provided for the first childbirth, and an additional ₹6,000 will be given if the second child is a girl.

Assistance in Three Installments

Eligible pregnant women will receive a total of ₹5,000 in financial aid in three installments:

The amounts will be directly credited to the beneficiaries' bank accounts. Additionally, if the second child is a girl, an extra ₹6,000 will be provided in a single installment.

Promoting Girl Child Births

The scheme aims to encourage the birth of girl children and prevent female foeticide. Implementation and monitoring will be carried out by the Women and Child Welfare Department, with Anganwadi workers responsible for identifying eligible women, assisting with registration, and ensuring timely disbursement of funds.

Past Neglect and Unutilized Funds

Although the central government launched PMMVY in 2017, the previous BRS government did not implement it effectively in Telangana, leaving hundreds of crores of funds unutilized. Thousands of pregnant women and new mothers missed out on financial aid.

With the current government taking this initiative, there is optimism that every eligible pregnant woman in the state will benefit from the scheme.
