Telangana women in rural areas have received a special Diwali boost from the government. Under the DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) program, a total of ₹6.11 crore has been released for 4,079 Self Help Groups (SHGs) across 32 districts. Each group will receive ₹15,000, as per orders issued by SERP CEO Divyadevarajan.
The funds will be monitored by District Rural Development Officers, ensuring proper utilization. With the release timed ahead of the festive season, SHG members have expressed their happiness. Among the districts, Mahbubabad tops the list with 397 groups receiving funds, followed by Jogulamba Gadwal, while only 3 groups in Mancherial will receive assistance.
Benefits of DWCRA/SHG programs for women:
Support to start small-scale businesses such as animal husbandry, tailoring, papad making, spice powder production, and handicrafts.
Easy access to bank loans at lower interest rates.
Training programs, market linkages, and business management guidance.
Increased family income and strengthening of the rural economy.
Immediate financial assistance, pensions, and insurance under the "Stree Nidhi" scheme.
Financial literacy and entrepreneurial training through women's training centers.
Through the support of DWCRA and SHGs, women in Telangana are becoming active participants in the state's economic growth. The programs not only provide self-employment opportunities but also enhance social respect, decision-making power at the family level, and financial stability.
